So you want to develop an Etsy business strategy, eh? Promoting on Etsy is one option to market your products, and it's a good one. But there's a secret weapon you might not know about…
Want to take a guess?
Okay, you already know because it's the title of this post: Pinterest!
Yes, Pinterest is a phenomenal tool to get customers' eyeballs on your products!
Here are just a few benefits of using Pinterest as a tool for marketing your Etsy shop.
#1: It's better than having to write a blog.
Now, as a blogger, I may be stepping on my own toes here. But people are drawn to visuals and short, to-the-point text and Pinterest delivers exactly that. That's why Pinterest is so gosh darn popular.
Instead of writing a blog article about the three different ways to style your hair with your business's special scrunchies (They're selling like hotcakes, I'm sure), you can SHOW IT VISUALLY. And if you do have a blog (which I recommend, but I'm a touch biased), you can drive traffic to not only your Etsy shop but your website, as well!
#2: Pins link back to your products and are easily shareable.
Once you pin something, it can be pinned again, and again, and again. If people like what you're pinning, they're bound to save it on their own boards and come back to it. That means even if they don't buy right away, they still might in the future!
#3: Pinterest lovers are Etsy lovers.
People who are highly engaged on Pinterest are often crafty, creative types who like unique products and styles. Does that not fit with the types of buyers on Etsy? It's like a match made in craft heaven! Can you say that about Facebook? No. No, you can't. Don't start with me...
#4: Pinterest lets you engage with potential customers without looking creepy.
Now, this one requires you to not be creepy, so stop being creepy if you're being creepy. But when you engage and pin not just your own products but others, you can develop a lovely community of pinners that keeps you from looking like a salesman.
So pin things besides your products to get people to look at your wares and engage with your Etsy shop!
#5: Pinterest users buy stuff!
Out of any social media platform, Pinterest drives the most sales for its business users. Pinterest users will already be in shopping mode when they're pinning away tonight after a long day at work. Their boss was a real headache today. "Oh, wow," Melanie says after seeing your jewelry pin. "This cute necklace is just the thing I need to distract me from the job that I hate. Sold!" And then Melanie goes to your Etsy shop and buys right away. It's retail therapy. And you're the therapist.
According to Charles Huff, author of the book, How to Sell on Etsy with Pinterest (Selling on Etsy Made Ridiculously Easy), Pinterest users spend twice as much as users on Facebook and Instagram. And the stuff they buy isn't cheap, either. Which means they value your unique, handmade products and will pay more than those cheapskates on Facebook and Instagram. I kid, I kid…
